Greenisland was formed as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland on Thursday 27 September 1934 following Christian work which began through the influence of the 1859 Revival  and the work of the Rev. Thomas Toye when the interdenominational Ebenezer Hall was opened for worship on the Shore Road in lower Greenisland in 1860. In 1912 the Knockagh Hall had been opened on the Upper Road and placed under the care of Whiteabbey congregation. The present church building was opened on the other side of the Upper Road on 6 September 1941 and in January 2004 the present suite of halls, rooms and offices was opened on the church site.
